We provide expert attention for all makes and models, ensuring that no matter what type of unit you own, it receives the professional care required to restore its performance and extend its lifespan.

Our Comprehensive Diagnostic Approach to Service

A true heat pump service goes far beyond a quick glance and a simple fix. It begins with a meticulous and systematic diagnostic process designed to uncover the root cause of any issue, not just treat the symptoms. An experienced technician understands that a problem like poor cooling could stem from a dozen different sources. Our goal is to accurately identify the precise issue to ensure the correct solution is implemented, saving you from future breakdowns and unnecessary expenses.

When our technicians arrive for a service call, they perform a comprehensive system evaluation that includes:

  • Refrigerant Level and Pressure Check: Incorrect refrigerant levels are a leading cause of inefficiency and component failure. We assess the system’s charge to ensure it meets the manufacturer’s exact specifications for optimal heating and cooling performance.
  • Electrical System Inspection: We examine all electrical connections, capacitors, and contactors for wear, corrosion, or damage. Loose or faulty wiring is not only a performance issue but also a significant safety hazard.
  • Thermostat Calibration and Functionality: The thermostat is the brain of your HVAC system. We verify that it is communicating correctly with the heat pump, reading the indoor temperature accurately, and signaling the system to switch between heating, cooling, and defrost cycles properly.
  • Airflow and Blower Assessment: Restricted airflow can strain your entire system and drastically reduce comfort. We inspect the blower motor, wheel, and air filters to ensure air is circulating freely throughout your home.
  • Coil and Condensate Drain Inspection: In Tallahassee’s humid environment, evaporator and condenser coils are prone to accumulating dirt, pollen, and grime, which impedes the heat transfer process. We inspect the coils and check the condensate drain line for clogs that could lead to water damage and system shutdowns.
  • Reversing Valve Operation: The reversing valve is the critical component that allows your heat pump to switch from cooling to heating mode. We test its operation to confirm it engages and disengages smoothly.

This detailed evaluation allows us to provide a complete picture of your heat pump’s health and recommend the most effective course of action.

Understanding the Signs: When to Seek Heat Pump Service

Your heat pump will often provide warning signs that it requires professional attention. Addressing these symptoms early can prevent minor issues from escalating into major, costly repairs. If you notice any of the following, it is time to have your system professionally serviced:

  • Rising Energy Bills: A sudden, unexplained spike in your utility costs is a classic sign that your heat pump is losing efficiency. It is working harder than it should to heat or cool your home.
  • Inconsistent Temperatures: If some rooms feel comfortable while others are too hot or cold, your system may be struggling with airflow, refrigerant issues, or other performance-related problems.
  • Strange or Loud Noises: Heat pumps operate at a relatively low noise level. Grinding, squealing, rattling, or banging sounds indicate a mechanical problem, such as a failing motor, a loose part, or a worn-out belt that needs immediate attention.
  • Constant Cycling: A system that turns on and off too frequently (short cycling) is not operating correctly. This could be caused by an oversized unit, a faulty thermostat, or restricted airflow.
  • Stuck in Heating or Cooling Mode: If your heat pump will not switch between modes, the issue likely lies with the reversing valve or the thermostat.
  • Ice Buildup on the Outdoor Unit: While a thin layer of frost can be normal during the heating cycle in cold weather, a heavy buildup of ice on the outdoor coil—especially during milder weather—points to a problem with the defrost cycle or low refrigerant.
  • Weak Airflow: If the air coming from your vents feels weak or diminished, you could have a clogged filter, a failing blower motor, or an issue within your ductwork.

Expert Service Tailored for the Tallahassee Climate

Servicing a heat pump in North Florida requires more than general HVAC knowledge. It demands an understanding of how our specific climate impacts these systems. The long, hot summers and high humidity put immense, continuous strain on the cooling function. The prevalence of pollen and airborne particulates can quickly clog coils and filters, suffocating airflow and reducing efficiency.

Our technicians possess localized expertise, allowing them to diagnose issues that are common in our area. We understand the importance of managing humidity control, ensuring proper condensate drainage, and selecting components that can withstand the regional climate. This experience with local conditions ensures that your heat pump is serviced not just to a general standard, but to a standard that ensures reliable, efficient performance in your Tallahassee home. From historic properties to new constructions, we have the experience to service any system with the precision it deserves.

I have nothing but great things to say about this company! From the initial call to trouble shoot our old system to the installation of the new system. Maya was awesome and patient with us and the bank. Stratton, Wilton, and Austin did the removal and install of the systems and they were professional and proficient. I will be recommending this company to everyone and anyone! Thank you for making this less stressful then it needed to be. I'm very grateful for the help and comfort they have given me and my family.

We’ve had issues with our a/c unit freezing up off and on for a month or so. Aden from Keith Key came out and checked our system out. He fixed an issue with the bypass valve and also tuned our fan. Additionally we also replaced our thermostats with new T10’s. He took his time and helped me connect all of them to the WiFi and the app.Aden is very friendly and knowledgeable. I haven’t had an issue with my system since. He was also willing to accept the assistance of our overly helpful shih tzu. Call Keith Key and Aden for any issues with hvac systems, they can get it fixed!
