Expert Heat Pump Repair in Newport, FL

When your heat pump stops working correctly, your home’s comfort is immediately compromised. In Newport, where we rely on these versatile systems for both cooling during sweltering summers and heating on chilly winter nights, a malfunction isn't just an inconvenience—it's an urgent problem. A heat pump that’s blowing warm air in July or cool air in January requires immediate, professional attention. Our dedicated team of technicians specializes in diagnosing and performing precise heat pump repairs, ensuring residents in Newport and the surrounding Wakulla County area can restore their home’s comfort quickly and reliably.

We understand the unique demands the Florida climate places on HVAC equipment. High humidity, salty air near the coast, and long operating seasons can lead to specific issues. Our approach is not just to fix the immediate symptom but to identify the root cause, providing a lasting solution that enhances your system's performance and longevity.

Common Heat Pump Problems We Resolve

Our experienced technicians have encountered and fixed every type of heat pump issue imaginable. We arrive prepared with the tools and knowledge to accurately diagnose the problem and perform the necessary repairs. If you are experiencing any of the following signs, it is time to have your system inspected.

Heat Pump Fails to Turn On

A system that won’t power on at all can be caused by several issues, from a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse to a faulty thermostat or a problem with the unit’s internal electrical components. We systematically check the power supply, thermostat connections, and safety controls to pinpoint the exact failure point.

Insufficient Heating or Cooling

If your heat pump is running but not adequately changing the temperature, it’s a clear sign of a problem. This is often linked to low refrigerant levels due to a leak, a dirty air filter restricting airflow, or a malfunctioning reversing valve, which is responsible for switching the system between heating and cooling modes.

Constant or Short Cycling

A properly functioning heat pump should run in consistent cycles. If your unit is turning on and off every few minutes (short cycling) or running continuously without reaching the set temperature, it indicates an underlying issue. This could be due to an oversized system, a faulty thermostat, or airflow blockages.

Unusual or Loud Noises

Your heat pump should operate with a relatively low hum. Grinding, squealing, rattling, or clanking noises are abnormal and signal mechanical trouble. These sounds can point to worn-out motor bearings, loose parts, or problems with the fan assembly. Ignoring these noises can lead to more severe and costly damage.

The System Is Frozen

Finding ice on either the indoor or outdoor coils is a serious concern. In cooling mode, a frozen indoor coil is typically caused by restricted airflow from a dirty filter or low refrigerant. In heating mode, a frozen outdoor coil could mean there’s a problem with the defrost cycle, which is essential for proper operation during colder weather.

Leaking Water

While some condensation is normal, excessive water pooling around the indoor or outdoor unit is not. This can be caused by a clogged condensate drain line, a cracked drain pan, or a frozen evaporator coil that is now thawing.

Our Detailed Heat Pump Repair Process

We believe in a transparent and thorough repair process, so you know exactly what to expect from start to finish. Our goal is to make the experience as stress-free as possible while delivering exceptional results.

  1. Comprehensive System Diagnosis: Our process begins with a full diagnostic evaluation of your entire heat pump system. A technician will inspect the indoor air handler and the outdoor unit, checking electrical connections, refrigerant pressures, airflow, thermostat calibration, and all moving parts. This holistic approach ensures we find the root cause, not just the obvious symptom.
  2. Clear Explanation and Options: Once the diagnosis is complete, our technician will explain the findings to you in clear, easy-to-understand terms. We will show you what is wrong with the unit and outline the necessary repairs. You will receive a detailed, upfront quote for the work before we proceed, ensuring there are no surprises.
  3. Professional and Precise Repair: With your approval, our skilled technician will perform the repair using high-quality parts and industry-leading techniques. We treat your home with respect, maintaining a clean work area and ensuring the job is done right the first time.
  4. Final System Testing: After the repair is complete, we don’t just pack up and leave. We test the heat pump extensively to verify that it is operating at peak performance and efficiency. We ensure it cycles correctly, produces the right air temperature, and that the original problem is fully resolved.

Repairing Versus Replacing Your Heat Pump

A common question homeowners in Newport face is whether to repair an ailing heat pump or invest in a new one. We provide honest, professional guidance to help you make the most cost-effective decision for your home.

A repair is often the best choice if your system is relatively new (less than 10 years old), has been well-maintained, and the required fix is minor. Issues like a faulty capacitor, a thermostat problem, or a minor refrigerant leak can typically be repaired economically, extending the life of your current unit.

However, replacement may be the smarter long-term investment if your heat pump is over 12-15 years old, has a history of frequent breakdowns, or requires a major, expensive repair like a compressor replacement. A new, high-efficiency heat pump can provide significant energy savings, improved comfort, and the peace of mind that comes with a new manufacturer’s warranty, often making it a more financially sound decision in the long run. Our technicians will provide all the information you need on the health of your current system to help you weigh your options.

I have nothing but great things to say about this company! From the initial call to trouble shoot our old system to the installation of the new system. Maya was awesome and patient with us and the bank. Stratton, Wilton, and Austin did the removal and install of the systems and they were professional and proficient. I will be recommending this company to everyone and anyone! Thank you for making this less stressful then it needed to be. I'm very grateful for the help and comfort they have given me and my family.

We’ve had issues with our a/c unit freezing up off and on for a month or so. Aden from Keith Key came out and checked our system out. He fixed an issue with the bypass valve and also tuned our fan. Additionally we also replaced our thermostats with new T10’s. He took his time and helped me connect all of them to the WiFi and the app.Aden is very friendly and knowledgeable. I haven’t had an issue with my system since. He was also willing to accept the assistance of our overly helpful shih tzu. Call Keith Key and Aden for any issues with hvac systems, they can get it fixed!
