Common AC Problems We Diagnose and Repair

An air conditioner can exhibit a variety of symptoms when it's malfunctioning. Our experienced technicians have seen it all and are skilled in pinpointing the root cause of any issue. We handle a comprehensive range of AC problems to ensure your system runs smoothly.

AC Not Blowing Cold Air

One of the most common and frustrating issues is an air conditioner that runs but fails to cool the air. This can be caused by several factors, including low refrigerant levels due to a leak, a failing compressor, or dirty evaporator and condenser coils that impede heat exchange. Our technicians will perform a thorough diagnostic, including checking refrigerant pressure, inspecting the compressor, and cleaning the coils to restore your system's cooling power.

Strange or Loud Noises

Your air conditioner should operate with a consistent, low hum. If you begin to hear grinding, squealing, clanking, or buzzing, it’s a clear sign of a mechanical problem. These sounds can indicate issues like worn-out motor bearings, a loose fan belt, debris in the outdoor unit, or a failing compressor. Ignoring these noises can lead to more severe and costly damage. We can quickly identify the source of the sound and perform the necessary repairs or part replacements to ensure quiet, efficient operation.

Water Leaks or Moisture Buildup

Noticing water pooling around your indoor air handler is a cause for concern. This is often due to a clogged condensate drain line, which prevents humidity removed from your home from draining properly. It can also be a sign of a frozen evaporator coil. Our team will clear any blockages in the drain line, address the cause of freezing coils, and ensure the entire condensate system is functioning correctly to prevent water damage and potential mold growth.

Frequent On-and-Off Cycling (Short Cycling)

If your AC unit turns on and off in rapid succession without completing a full cooling cycle, it is short cycling. This not only prevents your home from cooling effectively but also puts immense strain on the system's components and drives up energy bills. The cause could be an oversized unit, low refrigerant, a clogged air filter restricting airflow, or an electrical issue. We diagnose the underlying reason for the short cycling to restore normal operation and protect your system from premature failure.

AC Unit Fails to Turn On

When your air conditioner won't power on at all, the problem could be as simple as a tripped circuit breaker or a dead thermostat battery. However, it can also point to more complex issues like a faulty capacitor, a wiring problem, or a failed transformer. Our technicians perform a systematic electrical check to safely identify the point of failure and restore power to your unit.

Our Comprehensive AC Repair Process

We believe in a transparent and efficient repair process that keeps you informed every step of the way. Our goal is to make your service experience as smooth and stress-free as possible.

1. Thorough System Diagnosis

The process begins when our certified technician arrives at your Midway property. We don’t just look at the obvious symptoms; we conduct a comprehensive diagnostic inspection of your entire HVAC system. This includes checking electrical connections, measuring refrigerant levels, inspecting coils, testing capacitors and motors, and evaluating overall system performance to accurately identify the root cause of the problem.

2. Clear Explanation and Upfront Quote

Once the issue has been identified, our technician will explain the problem to you in clear, understandable terms. We’ll outline the available repair options and provide a detailed, upfront quote for the recommended work. You will know the full cost before we begin any repairs, ensuring there are no surprises on your final bill.

3. Professional and Efficient Repair

Upon your approval, our technician will proceed with the repair. Our service vehicles are fully stocked with a wide range of high-quality replacement parts for all major brands, allowing us to complete most repairs in a single visit. We use durable parts and adhere to the highest industry standards to ensure the repair is effective and long-lasting.

4. Final System Testing and Verification

After the repair is complete, we don’t just pack up and leave. We thoroughly test your air conditioning system to verify that it is operating at peak performance and efficiency. We check airflow, temperature output, and system cycling to confirm that the problem has been fully resolved and your home is cooling effectively.

When to Consider Repair vs. Replacement

A common question for Midway homeowners is whether to repair an aging air conditioner or invest in a new one. While a repair is often the most cost-effective solution for newer systems with minor issues, there are times when a replacement is a smarter long-term investment.

Consider these factors:

  • Age of the Unit: If your AC system is over 10-15 years old, it is approaching the end of its expected lifespan. Investing in significant repairs for an older unit may not be wise, as other components are likely to fail soon.
  • Frequency of Repairs: If you find yourself calling for frequent repairs, the cumulative cost can quickly add up. A new, reliable system can provide peace of mind and save you money on service calls.
  • Energy Efficiency: Modern air conditioners are significantly more energy-efficient than older models. Upgrading to a new, high-SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) unit can lead to substantial savings on your monthly utility bills.
  • Cost of Repair: If a major component like the compressor or condenser coil fails, the cost of the repair can sometimes be 50% or more of the cost of a new unit. In such cases, replacement is often the more financially sound choice.

Our technicians can provide an honest assessment of your system’s condition and help you weigh the pros and cons of repair versus replacement, allowing you to make an informed decision that best suits your home and budget.

I have nothing but great things to say about this company! From the initial call to trouble shoot our old system to the installation of the new system. Maya was awesome and patient with us and the bank. Stratton, Wilton, and Austin did the removal and install of the systems and they were professional and proficient. I will be recommending this company to everyone and anyone! Thank you for making this less stressful then it needed to be. I'm very grateful for the help and comfort they have given me and my family.

We’ve had issues with our a/c unit freezing up off and on for a month or so. Aden from Keith Key came out and checked our system out. He fixed an issue with the bypass valve and also tuned our fan. Additionally we also replaced our thermostats with new T10’s. He took his time and helped me connect all of them to the WiFi and the app.Aden is very friendly and knowledgeable. I haven’t had an issue with my system since. He was also willing to accept the assistance of our overly helpful shih tzu. Call Keith Key and Aden for any issues with hvac systems, they can get it fixed!
