Why Is My House So Humid Even With the AC On? A North Florida Explainer

Cool but clammy is one of the most common comfort complaints in the Panhandle — and it usually means your AC is cooling without dehumidifying. Here's why it happens and how to fix it.

Quick answer: If your home feels sticky even when it's cool, your AC is lowering the temperature without removing enough moisture. 2. The fan is set to ON instead of AUTO

The easiest fix on this list. When the fan runs continuously, the moisture sitting on the coil after each cooling cycle gets re-evaporated and blown back into the house. Set the fan to AUTO and give it a day.

3. Leaky ducts in the attic or crawlspace

Return-side duct leaks literally suck hot, humid attic air into your system and distribute it through the house. Common in older homes around Crawfordville and Tallahassee, and it shows up as humidity plus high power bills.

4. An aging or low-charge system

A coil that never gets cold enough — from low refrigerant or age — cools the air a little without condensing much moisture. Weak dehumidification is often an early symptom of a failing system.
